Texas Summer Blues

Posted by Picasa

Okay, I hate this. It's hot here, really HOT. Temperatures have been hovering around 100 degrees every day going on two weeks now. And as if that wasn't enough, it's windy! I hate hot, and I hate windy -- hot + windy = miserable. Last summer, the temperature never got over 100 degrees -- thank goodness -- which is unusual for this part of the world. But it's barely June, and we've already had several days in the 100's. I hate this (did I already say that?). No more strolling around the yard taking sweet little pictures of pretty summer flowers -- la la la. Oh no, now it's all we can do to feverishly pour water onto our lawns and flower beds to try to keep everything alive. You don't even want to leave the house between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. The nice young man who helps me with my yard came at 8:00 last night to plant 3 shrubs for me. He nearly melted into a puddle before he was done.
Why do I live in this rough god-forsaken Gene Autry country you might ask? Well, number one reason is that my family is here, and in spite of all my whining, I guess I'm just a Texas 'girl' at heart. I love the wide open spaces of West Texas and get a little claustrophobic when surrounded by too many trees, people, traffic, etc.
Actually, I have lived in a cold climate (hmmm reminds of something - have you read this and have you seen this -- both very good). In fact, I lived in Toronto years ago -- on this street

and I got really tired of this.

But gosh, I wish I was there right now in lovely cool Ontario.

Or, wouldn't it be lovely to be here, in beautiful Scotland? When I was there in August several years ago, the average high temperature was around 70 degrees which I think is just perfect. Our average low summer temperature here in Texas is higher than that.

And don't you love Ireland? This is a picture of Glendalough -- one of the most beautiful places I've ever been -- so lovely and cool.

Since I can't make it to the lovely UK this summer, we'll be going here instead next week -- Colorado. I just finished making the reservations -- thank goodness for reward points. Cold mountain streams here I come, yay!

I am tagging you. Yes, I know a complete stranger but nonetheless here I am.

I have linked my way to you because it seems we both enjoy the movie "razors edge" and I thought someone who can enjoy this movie might, just might, part-take in this particular tag -- to write your life memorie in just six words.

Just link your way back to me by clicking on my profile and look for the blog entry "six word memorie".
