Our home here in East Texas is southeast of Dallas which is the area where the strongest remnants of Ike are headed. We are under warnings for hurricane and tropical force winds accompanied by heavy rains. At the moment, we just have slight rain and gusty winds, but we expect the worst of the storm to arrive later this afternoon. We shouldn't be in any danger, but expect an unpleasant afternoon and night with probable power outages and possible loss of water.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all who bore the worst of this storm along the coast.
P. S. We just got a call from friends in Houston who said all is well at their home -- no real damage -- power out, no water or phone service (they called on cell phone of course!), but the worst is over for them, so that's good news.
This picture is downtown Houston -- from National Geographic News.

Blew in from Greentwinsmummy's blog to check out my fellow American! Glad you escaped the worst of it. On the East Coast we were all watching and crossing our fingers for you. Watch the flooding, now!

Glad you are fine fine fine! I visited charming Galveston once and am saddened by the images of the destruction. Well, here's wishing you to be where no storm comes for a while! And - thanks for understanding the fine IRONY of the post I have of my grandson shooting rats - the farm IS a boy's island!
