A Cautionary Tale

Rats! I put away my granny square project for a couple of months while I fiddled with this and this and this. So, the other night, when I was seriously frustrated with the whole intarsia bunny ears thing, I decided to work on my granny square afghan. Well, being the aged person that I am, I forgot what size crochet hook I'd been using, and also, how many chains I was doing at the corners. I made one and compared it to the others; it looked too big, so I made another one with a smaller hook and thought it looked okay. Well, I crocheted away -- making the 12 squares I needed for another row, sewed them all together, then proceded to try to pin them onto the afghan in order to sew them on. Look at this. . .

waaaay too short -- arrrghhhh! How could I have been so off?! I'm blaming it (again) on my advanced age -- certainly couldn't have been that lovely pinot grigio I've been enjoying in the evenings while I crochet, could it? Or even worse, could it be plain old dullard-ness? All is not lost though; I think my daughter can use them for the granny square afghan she's been working on, so seeing a silver lining here.
Note to Self -- 'in future, write down size of hook and particulars of pattern as I will not remember'!
As I mentioned to Mimi the other day, I'm thinking about changing the name of this blog to -- "Look At All the Things I Can't Do Worth a Darn Cottage". What do you think?

hi Gigi..your granny blanket is looking gorgeous...even with a short piece..(how frustrating!) I havent a clue how to crochet but dearly wish I could. oh well at least your daughter can use them for her afghan, so like you say, there's a silver lining.

I have a cat like Mary and she drools too! I'm in love with jerry..he would certainly keep your feet warm at night..maybe cut of your circulation a little..but certainly keep your feet warm!!

No, don't change the name of your blog, just continue to let us see your mistakes as well as all the things you do well. Its all part of life, none of us are perfect or do everything perfectly, and it is good for the rest of us if you share it all. I started a ripple blanket a few weeks ago, going wrong in one stitch every single row until about a quarter of the way through the ripples "bottomed out". I had to do some serious research and then start again from the very beginning. Never mind ( she says a trifle too brightly!)
