Cool Blue

I think most of you ladies out there (who are fiber fanatics like me) might agree that there's something so satisfying about getting some yummy new yarn in the mail, especially when it actually does turn out to be the color it appears to be on the computer monitor and really does feel soft and smooshy like you'd hoped. I've been thinking about a new project for a while and really looking forward to starting it, so I was a happy girl when this yarn arrived Saturday. I love the color -- cool midnight/navy blue, and the soft feel of the lovely Peruvian wool, and it was on sale at Yarn Country and cost much less than the Rowan Big Wool called for in the pattern -- that pattern being 'Faeroe' from Rowan Knitting Magazine 42 , so all around good score, I think.

I love Rowan, don't you -- their books, patterns, and yarns (when I can afford them) & that romantic 'wandering the moors' sensibility they often have?

I don't know how flattering this will be on me, but I love the big soft, cosy, snuggly, like you're wearing a blanket, look of it.

I'm hoping I have the right size needles around somewhere so I can knit a gauge swatch today.

And more cool blue -- just looking at the periwinkle color of this plumbago growing in the back yard seems to lower the temperature a tiny little bit, doesn't it?

At the LYS Friday, there was, of course, talk among the ladies about the terrible heat here. We discussed the merits of wearing a wet neckerchief (which I am at this very moment -- been outside watering), cotton undergarments (highly recommended;-), and cold showers at least twice a day -- whatever works, we all agreed. However, at this point, even the cold water comes out of the tap feeling lukewarm. Oh well, this too shall pass and in the meantime, I'm off to look for #15 needles to do a gauge swatch for a big dark blue woolly wrap for cold days ahead. Maybe? Someday?

Wow! Your new yarn IS fun! That pattern would take me a decade to finish! Also, my classroom is so hot in the winter, I'll be going sockless and wearing capris. You are such a productive knitter - I bet you'll have this finished and posted by August! Go G!
Oh, and your cool off tips are great! You reminded me to go outside and water the flowers. Smile.

Oh my, that Faeroe looks so lovely, huge and cuddly, I really look forward to seeing that when its completed - give us updates along the way though, because by the look of it, it will take ages. Well, it would me anyway! How many balls of yarn does it take? Helen.

Har Sudy -- Alaska might be good - not sure about the midnight sun thing though.
Actually, this is such big wool -- super bulky and using #15 needles, so I hope it won't take all that long. Even if it does, not like I'll be needing it any time soon anyway.
Thanks so much to all of you for dropping by!
Blessings,
G
