At My Age . . .

You would think that a 'girl' of my advanced age would know her own taste by now, wouldn't you? But no. As Mr. FC and I dragged boxes of Christmas decorations down from the attic, I looked in the boxes and realized that I didn't even like most of these things any more. What's up with that you might ask -- me too? Well, the thing is, we haven't decorated this house in the East in 4 years, yes, I know 4 years! The last few years we've spent Christmas in the West and done our little bit of simple decorating there. So, evidently, the Christmassy things I had stored away here in the East and thought were so lovely 4 years ago have fallen out of grace. I guess my taste has simplified somewhat (along with my brain ;-), so all the glittery gold and red just aren't that appealing any longer. What to do, what to do? I think I'm going to box up all the things that I don't care for in my new incarnation and take them to DD when we head West again. Anything she doesn't care for can then be sent on to Salvation Army. Frankly, I think at this point in my life, I almost like the tree better with nothing but lights -- or maybe a few pine cones and more natural 'things'. Oh, but I did find the cutest little knitted sweater, hat, and mitten ornaments at Hobby Lobby in Tyler yesterday (half price!), so those will be going on the tree. Anyhoo, the tree is up and today I'll finish it, so guess we'll see how it turns out? In the meantime, quel mess!

Ack!

And on the hookey/needley front, I began a scrap afghan (found here) when I was at DD's Thanksgiving. It's huge, really huge, and I even made my foundation chain 200 rather that the suggested 250. Thankfully, my son recently told me he'd like a really big blanket of some kind, so guess this is it. I do like the way it's looking -- kinda bohemian/old hippy. Here it is so far:

Look how big it is -- 86 inches long! I have a long way to go to make it wide enough. I think it will be big enough for a king size bed when I finish.

Also, I made this little gnome hat for the youngest grandson L. He still doesn't have any hair (just a few duck feathers), so he really needs this, and he really does look like a wee little gnome.

Well, back to trying to make order out of chaos.
More later,
G

Your home looks so cozy! I love the little red gnome hat -- so cute.

You know, I think it's a good sign when your tastes change. What would be the point in staying the same forever? I plan to keep changing and developing throughout my life.

Hi G
Last year I was SO sick of my decorations, but I think I must have chucked some because this year when I dug in the boxes, I liked a lot of it again! I do like lights better than all the ornaments though.
Your big blanket is very bright and cheery!

I'm making a striped blanket using up leftover yarn and it has taken on a life of its own too -- Every row I crochet takes me forever. I think mine will fit a king-sized bed too. You made me chuckle reading and see yours.
