Cowls & Clementines

Don't know if I've mentioned in the past, but I am a huge Nigella fan -- have been for years.  I remember seeing her make this Clementine Cake on her show quite a while ago (a couple of years at least?) and have had it in the back of my mind ever since.  So, this Christmas, we were given a box of Clementines, and I baked it -- finally.  It's so yummily.  As you can see from the pic, I baked it in little bundt pans rather than one big springform, and it turned out very well.  It's very very moist and has a kind of tart sweetness that is so delicious -- especially with a big luscious dollop of whipped cream.

And knitting?  Well yes, I really have been knitting lately (a real sock knitting marathon before Christmas), just haven't gotten around to posting anything. With the weather being so cold lately, I decided I'd really like to make a cowl. I love scarves. . . . well, I love the idea of scarves. Seems like every time I try to wear one, I get annoyed with the way they get tangled up and droop into things when you unwind them as you enter a store (or wherever). So a cowl seemed like the perfect remedy for that problem.  It keeps your neck warm and stays put -- no cumbersome yards of scarf to wrangle. So, I found a couple of patterns on Ravelry and started knitting away.

First one I tried is this one, Clemence, a very pretty pattern and fast knit, but I did have to knit the lining to keep it from curling.  (Raveled here.)

Then, I decided to make this one too -- raveled here.  It stands up very nicely on its own and is nice and warm.

Then I made this Infinity Scarf, but I'm not so happy with it.  Even after blocking, it curls up into a big wooly sausage when I try to wind it around my neck, plus I think it's too long (mine seems much longer than the one in the pattern picture?).  I love the idea of it but think I would like it to be shorter, so it could be wound around the neck twice rather than three times.

Oh well, two out of three . . .

Happy weekend to you,

G

P.S. Today is my birthday, and Mr. F C has just left to pick up my home made banana cake with cream cheese icing ♥

I love the colors in that second cowl, what yarn did you use? The cake looks yummy, I've never really watched Nigella, strange cos she's English, and so am I! I think because I never see her on Foodnetwork, so I don't know what channel she's on.

Hi Denise,

Thank you for the sweet comment about my cowl! It's made from Homespun by Lion Brand and the color is Fiesta. I just posted it on Ravelry with other mods I made too.
Nigella is still showing on the Food Network, but her show comes on at 6:00 am, so I tivo it --- I'm obsessed ;-)!

Hugs,

G

Happy Happy Birthday and many more of them all as wonderful as the last.

Clemintines - always around christmas time, I missed them, not a fan of citrus fruit but longed for them. Then there on the shelf for christmas week only were clementines - they were some ridiculas price per kilo so I could only buy three. Comments I got was - they are just like mandarins are they, theres plenty of those on the tree. So began the ritual................sheeer bliss.

Happy BIRTHDAY a day late! I hope it was wonderful BECAUSE you are so wonderful - like a princess. Your cowls are amazing! I've been looking for that Bonnie Bell lipstick but I can't find it! This year for you: filled with sweets, soft and encouraging words, kisses and hugs, lovely sounds, sights that evoke warm smiles, comfort, peace, and attention. YOU are LOVELY, G. (BIG HUGE HUG!) Pom, you are too kind, but I thank you so very much for all the loveliness you send my way -- lucky me!!
Oh, and the lipstick I think you're looking for is Bobbi Brown's 'Ruby' (the sheer one). I order it from her website.
Blessings to you my friend!

I think that the clementine cake sounds delicious. We have a pound cake (Keith's Aunt sent it in the mail, sweet lady) and tiramisu still in the fridge. I really need to start watchin my waistline again sooooo it might be awhile before I make anymore sweets ;-(

Love you Mommy!
