Thank You Colorado!

We loved our time in Colorado!  Only wish we could have stayed longer, but the time flew by.  What is it about summer that seems to make me feel as if I've fallen into some kind of whirling vortex?
But, we did manage to do a lot of fun things during our too short stay.

There was horseback riding along gorgeous mountain trails.  The littles didn't want to go, so it was just Chester and me.  Chester was a little feisty and thought it was quite imposing of me to get on his back and insist that he take me riding when all he really wanted to do was eat the tall grass along the trail and take frequent breaks to scratch his belly on the brush.

See how he looked at me at the end of the ride.  You can just see what he's thinking, can't you --- 'So you finally got off my back lady -- about time -- silly humans.  Now, where's my dinner?'

And we went white water rafting (this isn't us in the photo above because I forgot to buy water cameras again).  This was sooooo much fun!  Leah was a little hesitant about this, but once we got over the first bit of rapids, and she realized we weren't going to fly out of the raft and crash into rocks, she had a blast.  Actually, she just looked over my shoulder at this photo and said she can't wait to go again.  Me too!

There was ice skating - Leah's first time (A had skated a few times before).  They both did great!

There was a very important birthday celebration for a very important young lady.

Birthday pedicure/manicure compliments of a very charming and funny nail tech.

We had the most fabulous birthday dinner at our new favorite restaurant, Mirabelle -- charming!

After dinner, singing in the rain . . .

A short trip over to Vail where Leah took this beautiful photo from the covered bridge which leads into Vail Village.

(horrible iPhone pic)

And on our last night there, we got to see Keb' Mo' who we have loved and listened to for years.

Love his heart and spirit!

We also managed to squeeze in pottery lessons, lots of swimming & some hot tub time for Gigi (especially after rafting ;-), paddle boats on the nearby lake, long walks, meeting & spending time with kind new friends, a little shopping, late night movies, a little knitting (another pair of Muggle socks for A) & a failed attempt to go to Leadville to ride the train (Gigi chickened out and could NOT drive up the scary 2 lane mountain road in a rented car in the rain).  But, overall, I think a good time was had by all.

We miss you Colorado!

It looks like you had a wonderful time! I love the picture of you on the horse. You are beautiful! I am sad to see summer come to an end. I was just really getting into the swing of it. :)

Hi Missy,
Thank you so much for the sweet comments!
I have mixed feelings about summer ending -- love all the summer fun but can't wait to see this horrible heat leave us. We went to Dallas yesterday and my car thermometer said 101 degrees at 6:30 -- arrrghhh! Seems like all I've done since I got home is water our yard (1/2 acre!), and it still looks fried ;-(.

This sounds absolutely amazing! I can't believe how much you managed to squeeze in.

Hi Jodi! It was fun but kind of tiring (at least for Granny ;-). There's something about the beauty and wonderful weather that draws you out of doors -- unlike here where I just want to stay holed up in the AC day after day ;-(.

Look at you on that horse! So pretty! Once my mother had to ride a horse for some sort of business gathering my dad drug her to and when the ride was over, the horse died! He was old, but isn't that sad?
It sounds like you took advantage of all my Colorado mountain land has to offer! I'm so glad you had such fun. You really must zip up to Denver sometime. I'll take you to all the cool places! Ha ha ha - but no really, I will!
